Newn: stay informed without the noise.

A news discovery app built around how people actually consume information. Swipe through stories that matter, get a daily summary of what you read, and journal how the world is changing your thinking. The hypothesis: that staying informed should make you more self-aware, not more anxious.

01 The problem

News broke. We're trying to fix it.

Modern news consumption is broken in three specific, measurable ways — and most “news apps” just stack one broken layer on top of another. Newn is the product of a year of research into how people actually want to stay informed, and what gets in the way.

PROBLEM 01

Doomscroll fatigue

Feeds optimize for outrage and engagement, not for what you actually wanted to know. The result is a daily diet of anxiety with no through-line — you finish the scroll knowing less than you started.

PROBLEM 02

No record of what you read

Every other app forgets the moment you close it. There's no way to see what you actually consumed last month, no way to tell signal from noise, no way to spot when a story is being repeated three different ways.

PROBLEM 03

No record of how you've changed

Your opinions on the world evolve as the world does — but most people can't remember what they thought a year ago, let alone why. Without a record, you can't tell whether the news is informing you or just reshaping you.

02 How Newn works

Three primitives, one habit

Newn ships as a web app at newn.app — no install, no app store. The interaction model is deliberately small: read, summarize, journal. Together those three primitives form a daily habit that produces both better-informed users and a longitudinal record of their thinking.

PRIMITIVE 01

Swipe through stories that matter

A swipe-based reading interface tuned to your interests, not the algorithm's. Skip the noise, save what you want to read, and move on. The friction is intentional — every swipe is a choice.

PRIMITIVE 02

A daily summary of what you read

At the end of each day, Newn gives you a short summary of what you actually consumed — themes, sources, and the angles you spent time on. Over weeks, this becomes a map of your information diet.

PRIMITIVE 03

A journal that grows with you

Write reactions, feelings, evolving perspectives. Newn keeps the entries alongside the stories that prompted them, so months later you can see the thread: what you read, what you thought, and how that thought has changed.

03 What we're testing

A research probe disguised as a news app

Newn is the first of Pangeo's research products — and the hypothesis it tests is deliberately specific.

⊕ Working hypothesis

That layering AI-assisted journaling on top of news consumption produces meaningfully different outcomes than news consumption alone: users who read with a journaling layer become more self-aware about how their thinking changes, more discerning about source diet, and less anxious in the aggregate — not more.

The thesis behind Pangeo AI is that the best technology enhances human judgment rather than optimizing it away. Newn is a small, concrete test of that thesis in a domain — news consumption — where the dominant products have largely chosen the other side of that trade. Whether or not the hypothesis holds, the data Newn produces will tell us something the industry has not been willing to ask: what does “informed” actually look like when measured over time?

04 Try it

Live at newn.app

Newn is a web app — nothing to install, no App Store, no friction. Open it on a desktop or mobile browser. Free to try; account recommended so your reading history and journal carry across sessions.
